First major event was... TEMPLE WITH PAOLA!!!🥳 Paola is a recent convert and we finally got to go to the temple and do Baptisms for the Dead with her this past Saturday! It was so cool, and a temple worker took her on a little tour of all the symbolism in the baptistry which was super cool. She asked if she could just move in and live there, so I'd say she liked it and had a good time.
Second major event was... RAIN. 😱🌧 I know that might not seem super crazy, but it literally has not rained a single time since I got here. Not once in nearly 8 months. BUT we woke up on Thursday and it was a downpour. It rained the whole day, and by nighttime, the roads were flooded up to the sidewalks because they have 0 drainage here. It was just rivers. Next day we woke up and it was blue skies again, so it didn't last long, but it was such a highlight for me.
Third major event was... TRANSFERS!! Good news everybody: I'm staying in my area with Sister Kamp!! Bad news everybody: We're only allowed to drive 700 miles for the month of March. We normally drive about 1600 in a month because we have 3 areas🫠. The biking is about to go CRAZY. We're going to get so fit, everyone better watch out cause I'm going to be a biking maniac when I come home. 💪🚵♀️ For real though, pray that we don't die and that no cars hit us. And that we don't die.
Other fun things that don't qualify as a major event:
♡ We got to do JustOne again! It's a kind of food bank service project and it's so fun. All our extremities were frozen by the end of it though because this was the day of the downpour, and it was like 35 degrees outside. 🥶
♡ Got to go on an exchange with Sister Menchi in my old area! We offered a picture of Jesus to a lady on the side of the road and then she gave us 5 bouquets of flowers in return, so I'd say it was a pretty good deal. 💐
♡ The ward had a Valentine's Day party because they have a party for quite literally every single special thing and it was so funny.
♡ SPANISH DISTRICT IS BACK. They stopped doing Spanish districts for a second because there were some problems with them, but we're going to be in a Spanish district this next transfer and I'm so excited.
♡ Paola adopted me as her daughter because I can braid my own hair so "[I] must have some Dominican in me." That's my retort to anyone who comments on how ghostly white I am now.
Those were all the big things of this week, but it was a solid 10/10. A quote I liked this week was from a talk by President Ballard (What Matters Most Is What Lasts Longest) and it says "Indeed, nothing is more critically connected to happiness... than how well we love and support one another within the family." Going to the temple with Paola made me really think about my family and the blessing it is to have the knowledge that we get to be with our families forever when we make those covenants and remain faithful to them. I couldn't imagine eternity without the people who love and support me the most, and it's such a joy to bring that knowledge to others.
Love you all and hope you have a great week! Pray for every missionary who's on bike right now that we don't die. And pray Vegas has the coolest summer it's ever had. 🙏
